Morgan Antonsson
|
Morgans rallycross career started in -95 when he
competed with a Saab 99 in a district championship (DM) in Sweden.
He finished 5:th. The following season, 96, he went directly from Saab and
DM, to the European Rallycross Championship driving a Ford Escort Cosworth.
That was a big step and a big challenge for an amateur, but with much hard
work in the garage and great support from friends and family he managed to
finish in 9:th position in the -96 ERC.

The expectations for 97 was
therefore high. With the financial support of the new sponsor Tarkett the
team decided to buy the new Mistubishi Lancer Evo 4. The car was delivered pretty
late and it took quite some time to modify it for rallycross, but it was ready just
in time for the first race in Austria. Almost ready at least, the rear
differential had not yet been changed. The car was white at the beginning of
the season as you can see here but was later on repainted red. (See the big pic)
When the engine was tuned up properly the results was improved also, 6 A-finals
out of 8 races driven that season, bronse in Pembrey, GB. A total of 81 points
gave Morgan 6:th position in the -97 ERC.
